Assessing the Water Damage

Immediately following water damage the contents and structure must be inspected to devise a plan for restoration.  During this time it is important to determine the category of water loss, so certain cautions may be taken to reduce cross contamination from the affected to unaffected areas. The categories of water losses displayed below will help determine the severity of a water loss and help prevent health risks.

Category 1 "Clean Water"

Water that most often has no contaminates or harmful impurities.  Types of damage include but are not limited to broken pipes, overflows from sinks or bathtubs, and roof leaks.

Category 2 "Grey Water"

This is water that contains some contamination and can cause illness. Types of damage include but are not limited to washing machine fill-ups, dishwasher leaks, and Sump pump overflows.

Category 3 "Black Water"

This is water that contains contamination that may cause serious illness.  Types of damages include but are not limited to sewer backups, sprinkler line breaks, and toilet overflows.

Drying Process

Contents must be moved to make way for emergency procedures.  Careful attention must be taken to do so.  Water Damaged contents will be documented and assessed as soon as reasonably practical. 

Deconstruction of building materials will depend on the category of water loss.  The object is to be more aggressive with drying vs. disruptive with removal.  Only items damaged beyond repair should be deemed unsalvageable.
Extraction from the carpet and pad may be necessary. Did you know that one square foot of carpet and pad can retain up to one gallon of water?  Deep water extraction may be needed to speed up drying process.

Evaporation is obtained by strategically placing high velocity commercial air-movers to remove water from walls and flooring to vaporize into thin air.

Dehumidificationtakes that water out of the air using commercial dehumidifiers that remove up to 30 gallons of water each day. This process usually takes no more than three days.  Dryng time will vary depending on the class of water damage.

Class 1  ---  Water only affected part of the room and there is little or no wicking up into drywall.

Class 2  ---  Carpet and Pad is saturated.  The water wicked up the walls less than 24 inches

Class 3  ---  Carpet and Pad is saturated.  The water wicked up the walls more than 24 inches.

Class 4  --- "Specialty Drying" --- When water is bound behind, above, or below tight areas.  Including but not limited to:  under cabinets, inside a soffit, below a shower stall, or in a crawl space.

Every drying situation is unique and deserves special attention.  We use a science called Psychometry to dry the affected areas.  It involves testing humidity, moisture content, and strategic placement of state of the art drying equipment.  When the water damage restoration is complete we provide you with a Guarantee that your structure is dry!
