  Assessing the Damage
  
  In order to properly minimize further damage after a fire we must mitigate the loss as soon as reasonably possible.  After a thorough inspection of the contents and structure McCardel Restoration will work with you and your insurance company to devise a plan for restoration.  Immediate cautions will need to be taken to prevent secondary damage to the structure.  
  
   Emergency Services often needed after a fire:
  1.    Contact your insurance company as soon as reasonably possible.
  2.    Board up the structure to protect it from bad weather and prevent theft of your possessions.
  3.    If you have lost power, winterize your home during the winter months.
  4.    Establish temporary power for fire restoration and to keep your sump pump operable.
  5.   If the structure livable?  Temporary housing may be needed during cleaning and restoration.
  6.   Ventilate the structure to reduce odor and humidity.  Professional drying may be required.
  7.   Remove firearms from the structure and take to a gun smith to be thoroughly cleaned.
  8.   Furs, cash and jewelry must be addressed immediately to prevent further damage and theft.
  9.   Itemize refrigerated and frozen items for reimbursement as needed.

Contents

After a thorough mitigation is completed certain contents must be moved to make way for emergency procedures.  At this time careful attention will be taken to pack out your prized possessions as needed for cleaning or replacement.  Contents, or personal property, include everything inside your home that is not attached.  (example: furniture, knickknacks, clothes, linens, pictures, and etc…)

Demolition

Once the contents have been manipulated as needed, the demo can start on all building components deemed unsalvageable for fire damage restoration.  During this process pictures are taken and a sample of each material removed is carefully documented for replacement. Once the fire damaged building components are removed cleaning and drying of the structure can begin.

Dehumidification

The Cleanup of water damage after a fire is common and must be attended to immediately to prevent fungal growth.  Every drying situation is unique and deserves special attention.  McCardel Restoration utilizes a science called Psychometry to dry the affected area.  It involves testing humidity, moisture content, and an arsenal of drying equipment strategically placed to obtain the standard the IICRC considers dry.  Typically the dry-out process takes three to five days depending on the class of the water loss.  During this time we will discuss the scope for reconstruction with all parties involved in hopes to speed up the reconstruction process and have your home/ business back in working order with as little down time as possible.
